About

The HTC One is an Android smartphone manufactured by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. Serving as a successor to the HTC's 2012 flagship phone, the One X (a device that was critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful due in part to poor marketing efforts), the One places emphasis on unique hardware and software features, such as an aluminum casing, front-facing stereo speakers, a revised version of HTC's Sense user experience, a new camera implementation with an image sensor designed to perform better in low-light environments, and other unique software functionality such as the scrolling "BlinkFeed" content feed and Zoe camera feature.
While initally set for a release in mid-March 2013, manufacturing delays led to a staggered release beginning in late-March, with its release date in certain markets (such as Asia and North America) pushed back into April.

Hardware

The HTC One uses an all-aluminum frame with an antenna built into its backing; intended to give the device a premium feel in comparison to smartphones made with a plastic shell. The frame itself takes at least 200 minutes of CNC cutting to manufacture.[12] Internally, the device includes a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7 inch 1080p Super LCD 3 display with 468 ppi, and either 32 or 64 GB of internal, non-expandable storage. The HTC One will support LTE networks where available. Internally, the One uses a "pyramid" layout for its components similar to the Butterfly and 8X; with larger components (such as the screen and battery) positioned towards the front and smaller components positioned towards the back, resulting in a curved backing.
The HTC One's camera uses an "UltraPixel" image sensor that internally uses larger pixels; HTC claims that this camera design can increase overall image quality, especially in low-light environments. Unlike other high-end smartphones (which often use cameras of at least 8 megapixels in size), the HTC One's camera is only 4 megapixels: HTC's designers determined that cameras with such high megapixel counts are affected by their signal-to-noise ratio, resulting in fuzzier images, and take poor low light images due to the difficulty of capturing light through the smaller pixel areas needed in order to maintain a thin form. The megapixel size of the camera will also be de-emphasized in promotion for the One, with plans to put a larger focus on its technology as a selling point instead. The camera also includes optical image stabilization, and is further enhanced by improvements to the camera app and the ImageSense 2.0 image processor. The HTC One's audio system includes front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers, Beats Audio, and HDR audio recording.
